If you've never played the genre before, I'd say you should get D3+RoS simply because it is more straight forward and has less steep of a learning curve. Gonna get downvoted but that's from someone with zero nostalgic bias, as per your request OP. I've noted a lot of people hellbent on D2 when i asked are people who refused to give D3 a second chance after RoS/Loot 2.0 or those who played PoE way back when it had only 1-4 acts and was a whole lot clunkier. I also prefer the graphics - subjective obviously. I later tried PoE when it got up and became more "playable" in my opinion (Ascendancy Expansion) and have stuck with it ever since - it's nice to have constant fresh content and gameplay changes. I got into via D3, and from the get go all i've seen is nostalgia goggles for D2. If they remastered it at least i would be on it faster than (insert analogy here). I simply cannot get past the clunkiness, the workaround stuff for it to work. If you want to you can, go ahead and try D2, but personally i've tried four times now. The powercreep has pretty much settled the meta. D3 is pretty much doable with anything until lategame Torment levels. PoE can be overwhelming and i would advise you to go with a build guide on the forums rather than wing your own otherwise you'll waste plenty of time trying to figure it out on your own, a guide will help you understand the mechanics better. I would say Grim Dawn's a bit slower paced than PoE and D3. On the other hand entirely, you can play and quest through the game alone or with a few friends to experience the story, music, artwork, atmosphere, etc. I'm not sure what the community is like on bnet or how to find like-minded players there, however I do know that there are very helpful, tightly-knit and active communities around some of the well-established private servers such as (the one I play on). That said, I do think it can be played and enjoyed, but if you are a so-called "hardcore" gamer into end game progression, definitely get involved in the community because the end game mechanics are not self-explanatory. TBH I think it would be difficult to enjoy if you are used to the kind of hand-holding in newer games. I recently played 100 hours of d2 and really enjoyed it, but then I grew up on d1 and d2. I agree with the comment above that this is a terrific way to look at it. Last updated at 14:00:17 UTC Weekly Help Desk RAGE Loot Thread Trade Thread
